Scientific Chairman’s presentation of the scientific meeting
Frank Bonnet

The EAED closed meeting in Mallorca is a perfect opportunity to enlighten our colleagues on how to generate a comprehensive treatment plan in the face of one of the most challenging situations we encounter in our practice today, that being the case of anterior missing teeth and growth. The workshop will be guided by two moderators, Pr Carlo Marinello and Dr Hadi Antoun, clinicians of superior competence and considerable expertise. They will address pertinent questions in order to elucidate the different factors leading to successful solutions to these challenges. They will lead the Discussion sessions that will follow the presentation of the relevant essays and formulate the eventual consensus conclusions.

During the first morning, the decision-making process will be discussed on whether to orthodontically close the space of the missing tooth, or preserve the edentulous space for tooth replacement. Pr Carlo Marinello will moderate the session and address pertinent questions in order to elucidate the different factors leading to successful solutions to these challenges. Dr Marco Rosa will explain treatment with orthodontic edentulous space elimination by space closure irrespective of the craniofacial classification.  From another perspective Dr Renato Cocconi will then discuss the edentulous space preservation for tooth replacement describing:  Space closure versus space preservation as it relates to craniofacial classification.

During the second day, two tooth replacement options will be discussed: The restorative versus the implant solution. Dr Hadi Antoun will moderate this second session. Dr Conrad Meyenberg will present the restorative space management. He will develop the following topics:
Gap closure and restorative substitution of teeth into homologous teeth.
Gap distribution and restorative compensation.
Gap shifting and restorative compensation.
Gap opening, pontic-site development and tooth replacement.

From another perspective, Dr Roberto Cocchetto will discuss implants in young patients and adults describing:
Adolescence, craniofacial growth and implants
On-going alveolar growth, continuous tooth eruption and implants.
